PLAY DOUGH:
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup cold water
1/2 cup cornstarch
Mix salt and hot water and boil in over medium heat. Stir cold water and cornstarch in a separate bowl, mix till clumps are gone.
Add cornstarch mixture to the boiling water and stir.
Cook over low heat, stirring until it is consistency is like dough.
Remove from heat and place dough on cookie sheet. When it is cool, knead dough until smooth.
BUBBLES:
2/3 cup of dishwashing soap
1 gallon of water
3 tablespoons of glycerin (you can get this at most pharmacies)
Stir and you will have bubbles ready to play.
PAPER MACHE
Make your own paper mache by tearing up newspapers into small strips and mixing with glue – like elmers glue and you will have paper mache.
Gooey Slime
1 cup all purpose white glue
3/4 cup water
Food coloring or 1 tablespoon tempera paint, your choice of color
Borax detergent
Instructions
Mix together - glue, water, and food coloring
Mix separately 1/3 cup water and 1/2 tsp. Borax. Slowly pour this mix into glue mix.
Let stand a few minutes, then knead. Pour off any remaining liquid.
Store in plastic bags.
Invisible Ink
You can make invisible ink by writing on paper with lemon juice. To see the writing – hold up to a light source.
Silly Putty
You can make your own silly putty that works almost as well as the commercial kind.
Ingredients
2 c White all-purpose glue
1 c Liquid starch
Mix together, then let set to setup on waxed paper.
Using these recipes you will have some fun afternoons with your children while they create projects with their new “craft selections”.
